Smart sensors are finding their way to the innovative LED optimization portal MyLedgnd.

Ledgnd and PhenoVation shake hands and enter into a collaboration for a module in MyLedgnd.

Through this powerful collaboration, LED fixtures can be controlled by “listening” to the crop. A camera system from PhenoVation measures the photosynthesis efficiency of the crop and directly communicates this with the LED optimization portal, MyLedgnd. MyLedgnd, developed by the brand-independent LED experts at Ledgnd, enables the implementation of (Full) LED in greenhouses. This allows growers to make the transition to LED with confidence in the results.

Light Utilization Efficiency

“Through the many sensors from PhenoVation and the predictions from the analytical growth models of MyLedgnd, we can examine the light utilization efficiency of the crop. Light utilization efficiency is an important factor to consider in assessing how efficiently the plant converts photons into growth. This can depend on the crop, the color of the LEDs, and the climate. Thanks to the collaboration with PhenoVation, we can work on solutions like dynamic control and dimming of LED fixtures. The expectation is that crop results can be improved with significant energy savings by only lighting when the crop efficiently uses the light,” says Ramón van de Vrie, director of Ledgnd.

Programming per Crop and Growth Phase

Using the data from the sensors, we can program dynamic color control at different stages of the crop. PSS, the phytochrome balance (red/far-red ratio), will play a key role in this, allowing us to guide plants into vegetative or generative phases.”

With full-LED, there are many possibilities, but it is still not being applied optimally. Using data from smart sensors, we can achieve optimal programming of the lights, ensuring that no energy is wasted on inefficient lighting. Through this collaboration, we can make the most of all forms of lighting, including sunlight.
