Recap HortiContact 2025: Innovation and data-driven cultivation optimization
HortiContact 2025 was once again a great success for Ledgnd. Our booth attracted a diverse audience, ranging from growers and students to other industry professionals. It was particularly noteworthy that this year’s visitors were highly focused on data-driven cultivation. There was significant interest in sensor technology and the potential for collecting and visualizing data.
Opening HortiContact
On Tuesday, February 18, Maarten van Bemmel, Product Owner of MyLedgnd, had the honor of officially opening the trade fair at the Ruimtescheppenterras alongside Lucas van ’t Hof, Director of Easyfairs. Under the guidance of Aad Tijsen from HortiBiz Newsradio, the gong was struck at 11:00 AM, marking the festive start of the event. During the opening, Maarten also gave an interview about the challenges in the sector.
One of the biggest challenges is that many cultivation decisions are still based on experience and intuition. Maarten emphasized that technology is increasingly playing a supportive role in this process. “By analyzing data and recognizing trends, we can help growers make better decisions—for example, optimizing greenhouse climate conditions or reducing energy consumption.” Read the full interview with Maarten here.

Sensor technology and plant feedback
The role of sensors in greenhouse horticulture is becoming increasingly crucial for monitoring and optimizing crop growth. This was evident from the numerous questions we received about sensor technology and plant feedback. Many growers were eager to learn what factors to consider when purchasing sensors, given the wide variety available on the market. Through practical examples, we demonstrated how different sensors function and which aspects are essential when making the right choice.
Collecting and analyzing data

Installing sensors is just the first step; the real challenge lies in effectively utilizing the collected data. Many manufacturers offer proprietary software to interpret their data, but an optimal dataset often consists of sensors from various suppliers. As a result, growers frequently have to switch between multiple platforms, increasing the risk of overlooking critical measurement data.
MyLedgnd addresses this issue by integrating all greenhouse data into a clear, user-friendly dashboard. This allows growers to make data-driven decisions based on their plants’ actual conditions. This concept is often referred to as ‘talking to the plant’—using data to detect plant stress signals before physical symptoms become visible. This enables growers to act proactively and maintain optimal growing conditions.
KAS Work & learn tour
In addition to welcoming growers and other professionals, we were pleased to host participants of the KAS Work & Learn Tour. Student groups received an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Ledgnd and were introduced to the world of data-driven horticulture. We shared the story of Ledgnd’s origins, the development of MyLedgnd, and how we have become a leading data integrator in the greenhouse industry.
Thijmen Calis, a plant physiologist at Ledgnd, shared his journey—from working student and intern to specialist in plant feedback.

Conclusion: HortiContact 2025
HortiContact 2025 once again underscored the vital role of technological innovation and data analysis in the future of greenhouse horticulture. Growers now have more tools than ever to optimize their cultivation processes efficiently and sustainably through advanced sensors and integrated data solutions.
Ledgnd remains committed to supporting the industry with cutting-edge technology and practical applications of greenhouse data. With the continuous development of MyLedgnd and further integration of sensor technology, growers can maximize their crop yields and enhance their operational sustainability.
