Meet Ledgnd Thijmen Calis

Thijmen came into contact with Ledgnd during his previous job. He made sensors, sold them, installed them, and analyzed the data. “I had seen Ledgnd come by several times and noticed how cool the team dynamics were. Initially, Ledgnd wasn’t even looking for a plant physiologist, but soon after, I was hired anyway”.

Thijmen studied in Wageningen, where he completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Plant Sciences with a specialization in Greenhouse Horticulture at Wageningen University & Research. These programs provided him with a solid foundation in plant sciences and the specific knowledge he now applies daily in his work as a plant physiologist. ‘My studies at Wageningen University have given me the knowledge and skills I now use to help growers optimize their cultivation,’ says Thijmen.

Thijmen’s workdays are varied and dynamic. ‘Every day is completely different; one day you spend a lot of time in the office, and the next day you might be with one or more growers for a sensor installation or a data analysis session. Additionally, I gather a lot of feedback from the growers about our dashboard and relay this to our developer.

Thijmen especially appreciates the team dynamics and the good atmosphere at Ledgnd. He collaborates a lot with other colleagues. Together, they strengthen each other by combining their knowledge and expertise to achieve the best results for the growers. “I work closely with other colleagues, for example, a lot with Pantelis and Maarten from the MyLedgnd department on developments in MyLedgnd, customer cases, and also on sensors and growers. Additionally, I have frequent contact with Niels from Sales about sensors, the status of orders, and installations because he keeps track of that. I also have a lot of contact with Ilona about creating articles for social media and customer cases. Furthermore, I stay in touch with Ramon and Koen from Sales about new and existing customers.”

Thijmen sees a lot of potential in the MyLedgnd platform and is motivated to contribute to its further development and growth. ‘In five years, I see myself as the manager of a team of plant physiologists. I want to continue contributing to the growth of Ledgnd and our platform,” Thijmen responds enthusiastically.

In the time that Thijmen has been working at Ledgnd, he has celebrated many milestones and has seen the Ledgnd team grow rapidly. “I find the enormous growth and expansion of the team impressive. Additionally, the growth of our MyLedgnd platform and the increase in data analysis with new sensors continue to fascinate me. Lastly, I find it fantastic how quickly we have reached this point with the capabilities in MyLedgnd, which shows the potential for the future.”

Thijmen is a real sportsman and a motorcycle enthusiast. ‘I love to stay active. I do a lot of strength training, but also running, mountain biking, and road cycling. I often do these activities with my girlfriend. Additionally, I frequently ride my motorcycle to work because I’m a motorcycle fanatic. I also really enjoy cooking. And a bit of gardening is also something I like to do.” Together with their dog Midas, Thijmen and his grilfriend are often hicking in the nature. Thijmen’s personal goals are to live a healthy and happy life, have a beautiful house in nature with a lot of space for a large garden, horses, and children. ‘I always want to stay engaged in healthy living and enjoy life. A house in nature with plenty of space is my dream,’ Thijmen shares.
