Efficiency – μmol/watt
It’s not just about light output, but also about the ratio between yield (light) and consumption (watt/joule). The higher the output and the lower the consumption, the more efficient the LED. The amount of light an LED module can produce also depends on its lifespan, color accuracy, and color quality. The term efficiency originally came from the traditional lighting market and has since changed in horticulture from lumen/watt to P.A.R. μmol/watt.

The standard holds some truth, but it has largely become a marketing story because certain spectra are designed for the highest efficiency, yet are not scientifically aligned with the results of plants and/or different cultivation goals. The highest efficiency can be achieved when the red-blue spectrum is applied. However, it has also been proven that this is not the best spectrum for every crop.
