Triology: The Future of Greenhouse Horticulture – Part 3 Innovations in MyLedgnd
In part 3 of this triology, Maarten van Bemmel discusses the latest innovations within MyLedgnd, such as the implementation of a gamification element that allows users to receive and analyze daily scores. He explains how the platform focuses on API management and the addition of new sensors and partners to ‘make the plant talk to you.’
This triology delves into the innovative technologies that are transforming the greenhouse horticulture sector. It explores the challenges of implementing sustainable lighting solutions and how advanced technologies are helping growers optimize their greenhouses. Maarten van Bemmel, Product Owner of MyLedgnd, shares forward-thinking innovations and how these developments are empowering growers to make informed decisions.
Gamification with daily scores
Maarten van Bemmel talks about some new innovations within MyLedgnd. “We are working on implementing a gamification element,” he says. “Users can receive a daily score, for example, based on their total photosynthesis for a particular day. They can compare this data with variables that influenced their score to determine if it was a good day and what the associated ‘recipes’ were.” An example of this is: You have a day where you had ten moles of light. If on another day with the same amount of light you have a less good score, you can analyze why that is. Maybe it’s due to a different location within your company or another variable.
The goal is to make it easier for users to understand whether they had a good or bad day. “Instead of interpreting graphs yourself, MyLedgnd gives you a notification if it was a good or bad day,” Maarten explains. “If it was a bad day, they can click to see which variable was the cause. Maybe there was too little CO2 that day or too much light for the amount of heat in the greenhouse, causing stress.” Gamification is a direction Ledgnd is heading towards; it is currently in development and will soon be implemented in the data platform.
API Management
Additionally, MyLedgnd focuses on API management and adding new sensors and partners. “We are talking to suppliers of plant feedback sensors,” says Maarten. “The idea is not only to look at basic parameters like CO2 and light but also to ‘make the plant talk to you.'” We are investing in creating these partnerships and combining all data on one platform.
Sharing data is a challenge
One of the biggest challenges in the market is convincing growers to share their data. “In Europe, it is already quite open, but in other parts of the world, it is more closed,” says Maarten. “To win in this game, you need to optimize and start sharing your data, at least with your advisor.”
Maarten concludes with a look to the future. “We are constantly looking for ways to improve and expand our services. This means we always stay up to date with the latest technologies and trends in the horticulture sector. Our goal is to provide growers with the tools and knowledge they need to be successful in an ever-changing market.”
