Hortibiz reflects on five years of Ledgnd
This year, Ledgnd celebrates its five-year anniversary. What began as an ambitious project by founder Ramón van de Vrie has quickly established itself as the leading independent lighting advisor and data partner for the greenhouse horticulture sector. In a recent interview with Hortibiz Radio, Ramón shared an honest reflection on the past five years and offered a glimpse into the future.

From Idea to Impact
The foundation for Ledgnd was laid during the final year of his studies, where Ramón worked in a laboratory specializing in LED certification. “That’s where I learned how diverse LED technologies can be and how much impact the right guidance can have,” he explains. Upon returning to the Netherlands, he identified a gap in the market: growers needed expert support for transitioning to LED lighting.
The first projects focused on providing practical advice and guiding growers through the selection and implementation of LED systems. This approach resonated well. “What started as an idea quickly grew into a company that genuinely helps growers achieve better results,” says Ramón.
Data as a driving force
A key milestone in Ledgnd’s growth was the introduction of the MyLedgnd platform. This platform consolidates data from various sources, such as climate computers and sensors, providing growers with insights to optimize their processes.
“Data is the key to solving many challenges in greenhouse horticulture,” Ramón explains in the interview. “With MyLedgnd, we can integrate plant feedback with climate controls, enabling growers to see exactly what’s happening in their greenhouses and identify areas for improvement.”
This data-driven approach has proven to be a resounding success. Growers appreciate not only the technology but also the human support from the team of plant physiologists, who help interpret the data. This has resulted in a retention rate of over 90% among MyLedgnd users.
Growth in peole and markets
In just five years, Ledgnd has grown from a small team of five employees into a multidisciplinary company with fifteen experts. In addition to its operations in the Netherlands, Ledgnd has also established a presence in countries like China, the United States, and Portugal.
Ramón emphasizes that this growth would not have been possible without open collaboration with growers. “We always stand beside the grower, not above them. That trust is essential to our success.”
The future of Ledgnd
During the interview with Hortibiz, Ramón also looked ahead. Ledgnd has a development roadmap for the next three years, focusing on expanding the MyLedgnd platform with AI-driven insights and automated daily reports. Additionally, the company aims to further grow its international presence.
“In five years, we want to be active in even more greenhouses worldwide and deliver tangible improvements for growers,” Ramón says. “Our mission is to help growers work more efficiently and sustainably, without compromising on quality.”
A special moment
The anniversary is not just a time for reflection but also for celebration. Events like HortiContact and Greentech will highlight this milestone, while the team continues to work on innovative solutions for the future.
Ramón concludes: “We are incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in five years. But we are far from finished. Together with our customers, we’ll keep building a better future for greenhouse horticulture.”
